Firstly, make sure you set a limit on the team size and make this clear beforehand so that teams can’t argue with you on the night. When teams get too large it can be hard to take control of the room, so a limit of six is often reasonable.

Secondly, mix up the rounds. For example, you could have a trivia round, a music round, a picture round… the trick is to make sure there’s something for everyone. People will get bored if they can’t answer anything, and if you make it too easy it can be tedious. Make sure you include questions on sport, showbiz, entertainment, history, geography, language, current affairs… a blend of topics makes for a much more interesting quiz.

Thirdly, CLiKAPAD systems can work very well for this type of event, especially if there is a multiple choice round. Each team can be given a CLiKAPAD response device, and they can cast their vote on each question using this. This way, you can eliminate accusations of cheating or changing the answer, and it is a much faster way to collate the results to avoid the lengthy marking process at the end of the night.
